100 Years of The Grand Canyon National Park

In 1919 an act of Congress established most of the Grand Canyon as the 15th National Park in the United States. Located in northwestern Arizona, the park’s central feature is the gorge of the Colorado River which is often considered one of the Wonders of the World. The park covers over 1.2 million acres. The ‘Little Grand Canyon’ is a box canyon located here in Illinois in the Shawnee National Forest in Jackson County, south of Murphysboro.
